Make a Difference
Statistics show that the earlier a tumor is diagnosed, the better the survival rate. For many women who struggle to put food on the table for their families, having a preventative procedure for breast cancer is not a high priority, and gaining an awareness of why and how to seek assistance is not readily available. Yet there remains a substantial need for early detection services as breast cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed malignancies among women.
Many individuals who are stranded and/or isolated because of low incomes or language barriers cannot afford healthcare premiums or co-pays. Without early detection procedures, women in the population served through The Amy Foundation are more likely to receive a late-stage breast cancer diagnosis and are, therefore, three times more likely to die from the disease than are women with comprehensive health- insurance plans. Lack of knowledge and insurance represent major obstacles in obtaining adequate breast health care in general.
The mantra of The Amy Foundation is “early detection of breast cancer saves lives.”
Since its inception, The Amy Foundation has been committed to providing uninsured and underinsured women throughout central New Jersey with greater life-saving early- detection measures in the fight against breast cancer. Support of The Amy Foundation can make a difference in helping us win the battle against the devastating effects of breast cancer.
